Henry Cotterman's Obituary
HENRY COTTERMAN
The subject of the sketch was born May 17, 1838, in Northumberland, PA, removing with his parents when a mere child to Northwest Ohio which was then a
pioneer country with all the inconveniences which such a life afforded.
Living as we do today in the luxuries of the century little can we appreciate what has abeen wrought by the early pioneer that we might enter into his
inheritance.
On August 9, 1859, he was united in Holy wedlock to Miss Catherine Ralston of Miami county, and proved to be a happy marital relation. Into their home
came ten little lives to cement and bless this happy union.
On March 15, 1908, death deprived him of his beloved companion. The death angel also called two of their beloved children, Roswell, in 1910 and Andrew, in
1914.
The latter years of Mr. Cotterman's lifewas again blessed by this second marriage. Mre Martha Ross, to whom he was married in 1908 and who still survives.
Naturally of a strong, healthy physique, he gave promise for a long life of service and usefulness in his community, but how uncertain is the life.
In apparently as good health as ever he left his home Tuesday morning intent on a business errand when by accident with a spirited horse the waagon was overturned upon him and he was brought home unconsaciour. His family hoped that the
injuries were slight and that their loved one would recover but this was not to be. He lingered until late Wednesday evening and the gentle spirit of
this kind and loving husband and father crossed the great divide. Truly "in the midst of life we are indeath," and God will wipie away all tears. Mr.
Cotterman was a Civil war veteran of the 110 Regiment, Company E, and a faithful patriotic soldier and citizen.
The deceased is survived by his wife and eight children, Mre. Emma Hipsley, Mrs. Clara McGlaughlin, Charles, Mrs. Irene Kiser, Eugene, all of Paulding and Van Wert counties, also Albert, Frank and Grover of Miami county, besides
numerous grandchildren, relatives and friends. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcoopal church of Scott, Friday, April 11, the Rev. S. Lee Whiteman officiating. Interment in the Dunkard cemetery near Van Wert.
